What exactly is considered a retail store?

Grocery stores? Restaurants? Any place that sells anything?

A retail store (as opposed to other types of stores) is primarily focused on selling small amounts of merchandise to individual consumers. Basically, the grocery store would be considered a "retail outlet", whereas a food distribution warehouse would not.

Big News Coming in the New Year will be a new product release by the creators of the Blueprint Series, Steven Clayton and Tim Godfrey. Many marketers are already aware of the fabulous Commission Blueprint 2.0 that came on in September and many are making money using this system

Another great new product by these guys called Niche Blueprint 2.0 is coming out to help all of us marketers who are doing or want to do ecommerce storefronts. Let me ask you will you be there for the release, I already have my sport inline and I recommend that you do as well. Happy New Year 2010 everyone!

This distinction has become blurred in recent years with the advent of "big box stores" such as Costco and Sam’s Club. It may be helpful to view such enterprises as "quasi-Retail" stores. :)

I live in Chicago, Illinois. I want to sell Pools and Supplies Online and Door-to-Door. I know I need a Tax Id number and a Website. But what else do I need to create a successful Retail Business?

Well good luck and I hope you have done research in your niche before you invest in your business.

Here goes a quick list of things you need:

Business lic, save time and register your business lic as the domain name of your business

You should have at lease one years worth of money in the bank for your personal living. Worst thing for you to do is think you will live off the business during your 1st year. Any money coming in you want to reinvest into the company for more income

My friend is trying to get some used fixtures for his new Retail store he’s opening, and he says one of the cheapest place I can find those is in stores that are closing down.
I’ve been looking in newspapers and craigslist, but I can’t find enough information about those stores.
Any idea where I can get list of stores that are closing?

Local business gazettes

Accountants specialising in receivership work
Trade bodies
Landlords of commercial properties (rent is one of the first things a failing business stops paying)

For the actual equipment you could try eBay and setup some Google Alerts (google it) where you get alerted when a new page comes online containing your terms (e.g. "shop fittings").

I was fired from my job for retail theft about 4 months ago and I paid a restitution of 50 dollars to them. I was never charged with anything but I was wondering if this can prevent me from getting jobs in the future. Can future employers check this? I was not planning on including this job in my resume, but can they still find out about it?

I assume it was civil restitution, yes? I would check with an attorney, but I don’t think it would show up on a criminal record check.

You might have a problem getting a Retail job if you use your former employer as a reference.

Why didn’t your former employer press criminal charges? I would have when I worked Loss Prevention years ago. Count yourself lucky there!

I received the car loan through the dealer and I have received a pay amount/terms from the bank. The contract I received from the dealer is a Retail Installment Contract. Does the bank purchase that contract from the dealer, and will it change?

Yes the bank does purchase the contract from the dealer. No it will not change. The contract you signed if all was approved and arranged will be the terms of you loan.

The retail contract should disclose all information like total Financed, down payment, if you bought any extended warranties etc their price will reflect in there as well. It also lines out the terms of repayment such as length of the loan and interest rate. It will give the monthly payment and the due dates of payment.

One of the lenders the dealer works with will buy the paper/contract from the dealer. The terms of the contract will not change just because a bank buys it.

Like how do I open up a retail clothing store that carries popular namebrands? Do I have to contact the brand companies directly and do they actually work with small Retail businesses?

I do not know where you live nor do I care! what gives you any idea at all that you have any chance at all (staying in business) (let alone getting into business) if you don’t even have a clue as to how or who to buy your goods from? …. My God, I would say good luck but you are going to need a whole lot more than that.

I’m currently a senior manager in retail and am looking to get out of Retail asap.I’ll really like to get into recruitment but so far i have posted my cv everywhere online and applied for a lot of job but havent got anything yet,It always seems everyone wants recruitment experience.

Keep trying, don’t give up. Right now, during the holidays, everyone is busy trying to make quota in retail, and now would not be the best time worrying about a position in another area. Have you tried going through a professional job search? When you post on line, you are literally competing with hundreds of other applicants who, more than likely, have experience. On line, you almost have to have an exact fit, unfortunately. However, again, I would not give up. I would continue to apply, other than on line, and seek professional help; you will find a position eventually, just keep trying and don’t give up! Good Luck!

I’m torn between two professions, one is teaching the second is Retail management. I will be earning my bachelors degree in Psychology at the end of this year, so I am looking foward to starting my career in either of these professions. Can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of retail management and teaching? Thank you in advance for your answers.

I was in retail (not management) and am now a teacher. In my opinion, teaching is a far more rewarding career. However, it is also more demanding. Despite the time off, it is a career that you cannot leave at work. While a retail management job may end at 5pm, I occasionally grade papers until 12 midnight and brainstorm my lesson plans in the shower. If you are interested in having a family or have other commitments, teaching will be a bit harder. If you want to go for the rewarding profession and take on the extra hours of work, go for it.
